Silvia Arber is a Swiss neuroscientist holding a Full Professor position at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel and a Senior Group leader appointment at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI), in Basel, Switzerland.

She is recognized for her work on the organization and function of neuronal circuits controlling movement. Silvia Arber received her PhD from the University of Basel (1996) and carried out her postdoctoral work at Columbia University in New York (1996-2000). She received numerous prizes and honors, including most recently the Brain Prize from the Lundbeck Foundation (2022), and being elected international member of the National Academy of Sciences (USA).

11th Annual Meeting of iGE3

This year's meeting will have a special focus on single cell sequencing. As in previous years, this 11th edition will bring together iGE3 members to meet and discuss the future of basic and applied genetics and genomics in different organisms. The meeting will feature two keynote lectures by invited international experts, presentations by seven iGE3 and UNIGE members, and will also be an opportunity for the three winners of the 10th iGE3 PhD Salary Awards to present their research projects.

  • The meeting will be held in the Auditorium of the Louis-Jeantet Foundation in Geneva, as well as transmitted live online via Zoom. The Zoom invitation will be communicated to the registered attendees by email in due time in November.
  • Participation is free of charge, but registration is mandatory.
  • Registration deadline is Thursday, November 3, 2022 - Midday.
  • This meeting will be accredited as a continuing education half-day for animal experimentation.

10th iGE3 PhD Salary Awards

For graduate students working in the laboratories of iGE3 faculty members.

We are happy to announce the 10th round of the iGE3 PhD Salary Awards. Similar to the past years, these stipends will be given competitively to graduate students working in the laboratories of iGE3 members, for projects with a strong genetics or genomics component.

The graduate students have to be in the 2nd or 3rd year of their studies (on December 1, 2022), and the salary awards will be provided for 2 years, non-renewable. The final selection will be made by an external (non-UNIGE) advisory board. The stipends should be acknowledged in publications as iGE3 PhD Student Awards.

Please note:

  • up to 4 PhD awards should be given in this 10th round of the doctoral training support;
  • one application per laboratory will be accepted per call;
  • students from laboratories with awardees from 2021 are not eligible, i.e. lab of Profs M. Barberon, P. Castets, C. Jandus, E. Nagoshi, S. Nef and R. Pillai;
  • the announcement of the final selection will be made by Monday, October 10, 2022;
  • the successful applicants will present their project at the 11th iGE3 Annual Meeting on Monday, November 7, 2022;
  • the contracts will start on Thursday, December 1, 2022.

The iGE3 Annual Meeting 2021 will feature keynote lectures by invited experts and talks by iGE3 members. The meeting will also be the opportunity for the winners of the 9th iGE3 PhD Salary Awards to present their research project.

  • This year the meeting will be held on-site in Uni Mail, as well as transmitted live online via Zoom. The Zoom invitation will be communicated to the registered attendees by email in due time in November.
  • The covid certificate will be required to access the meeting. Please find here information about the sanitary measures that apply to events organized by the University of Geneva.

New director for iGE3 - Dominique Soldati-Favre

We are pleased to welcome Pre Dominique Soldati-Favre as the new director of iGE3.

Dominique Soldati-Favre is a professor at the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine, and director of that department. She has been appointed by the UNIGE rectorate to his position of iGE3 director as of August 16, 2021. She replaces Prof. Emmanouil Dermitzakis who left the Department of Genetic Medicine and Development of the Medicine Faculty to join GlaxoSmithKline as Vice President for Computational Biology.

We would like to express to Dominique Soldati-Favre our best wishes for success in her new assignment within iGE3.

New director for iGE3 - Emmanouil Dermitzakis

We are pleased to welcome Prof. Emmanouil Dermitzakis as the new director of iGE3.

Emmanouil T. Dermitzakis is a professor at the Department of Genetic Medicine and Development of the Faculty of Medicine, and director of the Health 2030 Genome Center at the Campus Biotech. He has been appointed by the UNIGE rectorate to his position of iGE3 director as of October 1, 2020, in replacement of Prof. David Shore who retired from the Department of Molecular Biology of the Faculty of Science.

We wish Emmanouil Dermitzakis every success in his new responsibilities within iGE3, and David Shore a long and happy retirement !
