9th iGE3 PhD Salary Awards

For graduate students working in the laboratories of iGE3 faculty members.

We are happy to announce the 9th round of the iGE3 PhD Salary Awards. Similar to the past years, these stipends will be given competitively to graduate students working in the laboratories of iGE3 members, for projects with a strong genetics or genomics component.

The graduate students have to be in the 2nd or 3rd year of their studies (on December 1, 2021), and the salary awards will be provided for 2 years, non-renewable. The final selection will be made by an external (non-UNIGE) advisory board. The stipends should be acknowledged in publications as iGE3 PhD Student Awards.

Please note:

  • up to 6 PhD awards should be given in this 9th round of the doctoral training support;
  • one application per laboratory will be accepted per call;
  • students from laboratories with awardees from 2020 are not eligible, i.e. lab of Profs F. Stutz, G. Andrey, L. Lopez-Molina and P. Viollier;
  • the announcement of the final selection will be made by Monday, October 4, 2021;
  • the successful applicants will present their project at the 10th iGE3 Annual Meeting on Thursday, November 11, 2021;
  • the contracts will start on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

The iGE3 Annual Meeting 2020 will feature keynote lectures by invited experts and talks by iGE3 members. The meeting will also be the opportunity for the winners of the 8th iGE3 PhD Salary Awards to present their research project.

This year the meeting will be held online as a webinar via Zoom. The connection information will be communicated to the participants through an email invite in due time. Participation is free of charge, but registration is required.

New director for iGE3 - Emmanouil Dermitzakis

We are pleased to welcome Prof. Emmanouil Dermitzakis as the new director of iGE3.

Emmanouil T. Dermitzakis is a professor at the Department of Genetic Medicine and Development of the Faculty of Medicine, and director of the Health 2030 Genome Center at the Campus Biotech. He has been appointed by the UNIGE rectorate to his position of iGE3 director as of October 1, 2020, in replacement of Prof. David Shore who retired from the Department of Molecular Biology of the Faculty of Science.

We wish Emmanouil Dermitzakis every success in his new responsibilities within iGE3, and David Shore a long and happy retirement !

  • the announcement of the final selection will be made by Monday, September 28, 2020;
  • the successful applicants will present their project at the 9th iGE3 Annual Meeting on Monday, November 2, 2020;
  • the contracts will start on Sunday, December 1, 2020.

  • one application per laboratory will be accepted per call;
  • students from laboratories with awardees from 2017 are not eligible, i.e. lab of Dr Currat, Profs Gotta, Herrera, Martinou, Ulm and Zdobnov;
  • the announcement of the final selection will be made by Monday, October 15, 2018;
  • the successful applicants will present their project at the 7th iGE3 Annual Meeting on Tuesday, November 13, 2018;
  • the contracts will start on Saturday, December 1, 2018.

New director for iGE3 - David Shore

We are pleased to welcome Prof. David Shore as the new director of iGE3.

David Shore is a professor at the Department of Molecular Biology of the Faculty of Science. He has been appointed to his position of iGE3 director since October 1, 2017, in replacement of Prof. Stylianos Antonarakis who retired from the Department of Genetic Medicine and Development of the Faculty of Medicine.

We wish David Shore every success in his new responsibilities within iGE3 !
