New director for iGE3 - David Shore

We are pleased to welcome Prof. David Shore as the new director of iGE3.

David Shore is a professor at the Department of Molecular Biology of the Faculty of Science. He has been appointed to his position of iGE3 director since October 1, 2017, in replacement of Prof. Stylianos Antonarakis who retired from the Department of Genetic Medicine and Development of the Faculty of Medicine.

We wish David Shore every success in his new responsibilities within iGE3 !

New iGE3 member - Brenda Kwak

We are pleased to welcome Prof. Brenda Kwak as a new faculty member of iGE3.

Brenda Kwak is a professor at the Department of Pathology and Immunology of the Faculty of Medicine. Her group is interested in the mechanisms by which connexins and pannexins participate in cardiovascular physiology and disease, including atherosclerosis.

5th iGE3 PhD Salary Awards

For graduate students working in the laboratories of iGE3 faculty members.

We are happy to announce the 5th round of the iGE3 PhD Salary Awards. Similar to the past four years, these stipends will be given competitively to graduate students working in the laboratories of iGE3 members, for projects with a strong genetics or genomics component.

The graduate students have to be in the 2nd or 3rd year of their studies, and the salary awards will be provided for 2 years, non-renewable. The final selection will be made by an external (non-UNIGE) advisory board. The stipends should be acknowledged in publications as iGE3 PhD Student Awards.

Please note:

  • up to 6 PhD awards should be given in this 5th round of the doctoral training support;
  • one application per laboratory will be accepted per call;
  • students from laboratories with awardees from last year are not eligible, i.e. lab of Profs Galliot, Jabaudon, Steiner and Trajkovski;
  • the announcement of the final selection will be made by Monday, October 16, 2017;
  • the successful applicants will present their project at the 6th iGE3 Annual Meeting on Tuesday, November 7, 2017;
  • the contracts will start on Friday, December 1, 2017.

New iGE3 member - Marc Chanson

We are pleased to welcome Prof. Marc Chanson as a new faculty member of the iGE3.

Marc Chanson is an associate professor at the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Cell Physiology and Metabolism of the Faculty of Medicine. The main interests of his lab are the molecular mechanisms underlying airway epithelial cell repair in the context of cystic fibrosis, an infectious and pro-inflammatory genetic lung disease.
